HEALTH RISKS IN YOUR OWN HOME

If you're anything like me, the health and well being of your family is high on your list of concerns and priorities.

I am married and the father of three children. I am currently a student persuing an MA degree, and as such, sufficient health insurance is often beyond my reach. I love my family and would do anything to ensure that they are well. Whether you are married or single, have kids or not, I'm sure your good health and wellness is often on your mind.

Here are some sobering statistics to think about.

At the beginning of the 20th century, when my grandparents were born, the Cancer incidence rate was one in 50. Today, one in THREE Americans will suffer with Cancer. Cancer is the number 2 killer of adults and the leading cause of death from disease in children. I just heard on the news last night that doctors are alarmed by the rise in Breast Cancer victims. My brother-in-law lost his mother to Breast Cancer recently. My best friend's mother was recently diagnosed with Cancer. My wife's father died of Cancer when she was still young. I'm sure your life has been touched in some way by this killer disease.

The incidence of Alzheimers and MS increases annually. Birth defects are on the rise. Over 150,000 babies are born with defects each year for reasons unknown. There are more miscarriages, more people with asthma and allergies, and ADD is prevalent among adults and children. You or someone you know has probably been touched in some way by these illnesses or others as well.

Many scientists are linking these ailments, at least in part, to long-term chemical exposure. For most of us, our greatest exposure is right here in our homes. We clean with, breathe, absorb, and even swallow these chemicals when we eat off of plates that have been cleaned with toxic products. One of the leading killers of children under 5 is cleaning products!!! Did you realize that? Every 13 seconds, a family calls a poison control center regarding a poisoning at home.

Why in the world would anyone voluntarily have toxic chemicals in their home that could be harmful to themselves and their family? The problem is that most people are largely unaware of just how dangerous these household chemicals can be. Since World War II, our homes have been flooded with these dangerous substances--chlorine bleach, ammonia, formaldehyde, phosphates, aerosol propellants and more. There are dangerous chemicals in our laundry detergent, our diswashing liquid, our household cleaners, and much more-- even our shampoo! Like most people, I just always assumed that if the store was selling it, it must be safe! I was startled to learn that that was far from true.

According to Debra Lynn Dadd, author of Home Safe Home, "most consumer products that we all use every day are filled with toxic chemicals, many of which would require special handling if used in a chemical laboratory or workplace. In fact, in industry, workers are required to wear special gloves, goggles, and sometimes even a respirator when using some of the exact same chemicals found in just about every home. Yet, we use products containing these same chemicals at home with no protection at all and with no ventilation!"

Some people have especially strong allergic reactions to these chemicals, which causes a variety of miserable symptoms, including headaches, sore throat, skin irritation, acne, depression, fatigue, and more.

But even those who do not notice such immediate symptoms are at risk due to long-term chemical exposure. As I mentioned before, Cancer, birth defects, genetic changes, heart disease, and many other physical and psychological problems have been recently linked to dangerous substances that we all have in our homes. For example, one cause of Breast Cancer has been determined to be the aluminum that is an ingredient in many under-arm deodorants. Who would ever suspect that their deodorant could be a factor in their death?

When I learned of these dangers lurking in my very own home, I wanted to throw them all in the trash immediately! I did not want to put my family at further risk. But how were we to clean our home and do our daily activities without these products?

So, what can you do? One of the best things that has happened in my life for my own wellness and that of my family is that we found that there is no need to use toxic products--because safe, effective, affordable alternatives are available. They are out there, you just have to know where to look for them. I have noticed a dramatic improvement in many health issues that my family was dealing with since we converted our home to healthier, safer alternatives.

Educate yourself on the subject. Begin to eliminate the toxins from your home now. Your cleaning products have to go first--and they are often the easiest to replace. Make a good start towards superior wellness today. If you want my recommendations on where to find naturally derived, healthier alternatives, please contact me as soon as possible.
